Product Setup
WPLM works with native WooCommerce products — there are no custom product types. Every product gains a Licensing tab in the Product data box.
Two modes
Section titled “Two modes”The Licensing tab offers two mutually exclusive modes:
1. Subscription Plan (recommended for recurring/tiered products)
Section titled “1. Subscription Plan (recommended for recurring/tiered products)”Choose a Subscription Plan from the dropdown. The product then sells that plan’s license types — customers pick one on the product page. When a plan is selected, the simple licensing fields below hide automatically.
2. Simple one-time licensing
Section titled “2. Simple one-time licensing”Leave the plan as None and tick Enable Licensing to issue a single license key on purchase. Configure:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Key source | Generate from a generator, or draw from an existing pool. |
| Generator | Which generator produces the key. |
| Max activations (seats) | Override the generator default. |
| Valid for (days) | Relative expiry from first activation. |
| Single key, quantity = seats | Issue one key with seats = order quantity, instead of one key per unit. |
| Overage strategy | deny / allow 1.25× / allow 2×. |
Software-product rules
Section titled “Software-product rules”| Rule | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Licensing toggle | Only flagged products (or those with a plan) issue keys. |
| Empty pool | If a product draws from an empty pool with no generator, the purchase is blocked with a stock error. |
| Quantity → keys | Buying quantity N issues N distinct keys, unless “single key, N seats” is set. |
| One-per-customer | Optional — prevents a customer holding more than one active license/subscription for the product. |
| Delivery | Virtual + downloadable software is handled natively: the key (and an optional signed download link) are delivered. |
